As part of a parliament simulation with all the trimmings, the pupils from the participating upper schools from the cantons of St. Gallen and both Appenzell deal intensively with the topics of democracy, children's rights, sustainable development and empowerment. They are instructed by teachers from the children's village and the University of Education St. Gallen.

Around 6,000 children and young people take part in the projects at the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Switzerland every year. Topics such as freedom of expression, anti-racism or discrimination are dealt with in a way that is suitable for children, and prejudices are broken down in face-to-face encounters. Three quarters of the projects are financed by private donors.
